Ghanaian striker Stephen Amankona has sealed a move to Egyptian Premier League side Smouha SC, signing a three-year contract after a stellar run in the Ghana Premier League.
The 25-year-old, who netted 34 goals across two seasons for Berekum Chelsea, was a hot target with interest from Rayon Sports, APR FC, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns. But Smouha beat all to his signature, reportedly matching Chelsea’s $100,000 asking price.
Amankona, a two-time Ghana Premier League Golden Boot winner (2023/24 and 2024/25), was the NASCO Player of the Month for March 2025, famously scoring a hat-trick against Accra Lions.
This marks his first move abroad, after an earlier attempt with MTK Budapest. He’s expected to bring versatility and goals to coach Ahmed Samy’s squad, who are targeting a top-four finish in Egypt this season.
Amankona also has two Black Stars appearances and was part of Ghana’s U20 team for the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.
Smouha fans in Alexandria will get their first glimpse of the forward during pre-season preparations in the coming weeks.
