Ghana has been placed in Pot B for the draw and could be handed one of Africa’s big boys of the host Angola with Egypt, Cameroon and Ivory Coast in the first Pot of seeds. The only teams the Black Stars are guaranteed they won’t face in the group stage are Nigeria, Tunisia and Mali who are in Pot B alongside Ghana.
There is the potential for Ghana to play neighbours and bogey side Togo, Southern Africans Zambia, Algeria who knocked serial African champions Egypt from the 2010 World Cup or Benin who were Ghana’s toughest opponents in the 2010 qualifiers.
And from the final pot, the Stars could come up against another tough side Gabon, Burkina Faso, Mozambique or Malawi.
There is the chance the Black Stars could have a really tough opening group to deal with but Eric Addo feels to will be equipped to handle that.
“In a tournament to win you have to be prepared to play tough games so we have to be ready for whoever the draw will give us,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “We have to do our home work well and go to the tournament with our focus clear.”
Captain Stephen Appiah also sings from the we are ready for any team hymn sheet but he also knows life could be a easier with a flexible draw.
“I think we are ready to face any team that will come our way but I wouldn’t mind if we get the easiest group. It makes life easy.”
