Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says his side proved superior in the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship final, despite losing on penalties to Ivory Coast.
Ghana bounced back strongly in the tournament after suffering a 3-0 defeat to the hosts in the group stage, defeating Nigeria to book a place in the final.
The championship decider ended goalless after 90 minutes, with the Ivorians edging the shootout 4-3 to lift the trophy.
Reflecting on the match, Narteh Ogum told Asempa FM his boys executed their strategy perfectly.
“We outplayed Ivory Coast, and they did not have a plan B because we were determined not to lose in the final. We planned very well ahead of the game to eliminate most of their dangerous players, and our game plan worked to perfection, but unfortunately, we lost on penalty shootouts,” he said.
Despite the heartbreak, Ghana achieved their main objective of qualifying for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be staged later this year in Morocco.
