Spurs gifted chance to cash in on Moura

Tottenham Hotspur have been gifted a chance to cash in on Lucas Moura before deadline day on September 1st…

What’s the word?

According to journalist Jorge Nicola on Yahoo Esportes, the north Londoners have received at least three bids from unnamed teams across Europe and Asia for the Brazilian winger.

It’s believed that the Lilywhites would be open to a sale if an offer of €20m (£17m) or more comes in.

If not, he could remain amongst the backup options under manager Antonio Conte for at least another season.

Should Spurs cash in on Lucas Moura?

Time to sell?

That would be an awful waste of money, however, so at this point, sporting director Fabio Paratici should consider cashing in if another offer comes forward in the coming weeks.

As per Capology (via FBref), the former Paris Saint-Germain man is thought to be on around £80k-per-week, which is more than Conte’s current starters such as Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies.

And with the arrival of Richarlison in a whopping £60m deal from Everton this summer, on top of having Dejan Kulusevski, keeping Moura around to bench warm doesn’t make much sense at all.

Since that night in Amsterdam, he has been very mediocre at best. Indeed, in 2022, the Brazilian has managed only three assists in the Premier League, failing to score, as per Transfermarkt.

So far this campaign, he has been restricted to just 12 minutes of game time, which is a worrying sign for someone on such a high wage.

Once described as a “nightmare” to train against by Dier, the £25m signing from PSG in 2018 could garner Spurs some nice funds to end their busy summer of business, though, at 30 years of age, their window of opportunity is only getting smaller.

Conte no longer needs Moura and he may well not be good enough for the club anymore, given his recent form, so as such, Paratici and co must cash in on the long-serving star if another offer arrives in the near future.

AND in other news, Spurs remain interested in £50m “frightening talent”, it could be Dybala 2.0 for Levy…
