“I model my game after late Christian Atsu” – Christopher Baah Bonsu

Fast-rising Ghanaian winger Christopher Baah Bonsu says the late Christian Atsu remains his biggest inspiration, revealing he grew up wanting to play just like the former Black Stars playmaker.

The 20-year-old, who recently made his senior debut for Ghana following a breakout season with Belgian side KRC Genk, said Atsu’s career continues to serve as his benchmark.

“I model my game after late Christian Atsu. May his soul rest in peace. Growing up, I wanted to be like him as a footballer. I really admired his style of play,” Baah Bonsu told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

Baah Bonsu played 38 matches in all competitions for Genk in the just-ended Belgian Pro League season, scoring three goals and providing four assists. His performances earned him a call-up to the Black Stars — a major milestone in his young career.

Now back in Ghana for the holidays, Baah Bonsu says he is determined to keep improving and honour the legacy of Atsu, who tragically passed away in 2023 during an earthquake in Turkey.

Atsu, remembered for his dazzling footwork, humility, and clutch performances — especially at the 2015 AFCON ; continues to inspire a new generation of Ghanaian talent.
