The Sports Ministry will be making an intervention in the case of the unfortunate death of the young Ghanaian referee Kwame Kyei Andoh.
The 21-year-old died days later after suffering beatings while officiating as an assistant referee in a third tier league match between Gold Stars and NaaJoe United in Bordie.
The death of the young referee has ignited talks of serious sanctions on the club and individuals responsible for the unacceptable attacks.
The Ghana FA meanwhile awaits a final medical report over the cause of death while inviting Police investigations before making a move.
The Sports Ministry is also concerned by the development and will be making an intervention.
“We have been made aware of the situation and we are equally concerned,” Deputy Sports Minister Joseph Yamin told Radio Gold.
“A life was lost and I will be meeting the minister today so we take a decision on that.”
Kyei’s death has brought to the fore discussions of adequate protection for match officials for Ghana FA sanctioned matches.
Physical attacks are very prevalent in the lower tiers of Ghana football despite consistent efforts being made by the association to rid the game of this cancer.
