Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised President John Mahama, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Black Stars players following Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars sealed their place at next year’s tournament to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico after a hard-fought 1–0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday night. The victory saw Ghana top Group I with 35 points.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Buem, expressed delight with the team’s achievement and acknowledged the collective effort behind it.
“I have always been excited, whether I am in charge or not, or whether my government is in power or not. The feeling I have is not different from our previous World Cup qualifications,” he said.
“I want to thank President Mahama and the entire country for their support. There were issues, but they still came out to support the team. Even when playing away, you could still see Ghanaian fans there. The GFA and the technical team all contributed to this success.”
The Sports Minister also commended the players for their determination and professionalism throughout the campaign.
“The players have been wonderful and played a key role in achieving this qualification,” he added.
Ghana’s qualification marks their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, following previous outings in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.
The draw for the 2026 tournament will take place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
