Henry Asante Twum, the Director of Communications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has revealed that the Minister of Youth and Sports has pledged to clear outstanding financial arrears owed to the technical team of the Black Stars.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Asante Twum confirmed that the Minister had engaged both GFA President Kurt Okraku and Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, assuring them of the government’s full commitment to settle the debts.
“Yes, there are some arrears, but the Sports Minister has spoken to both the GFA President and Otto Addo, and has given us his 100% commitment to pay it as soon as feasible,” he stated.
While he admitted the situation is concerning, he expressed confidence in the Minister’s promise.
“It is very frightening, but we trust the Sports Minister to follow his promise.”
The arrears reportedly involve payments due to the technical staff, and come at a crucial time as the national team prepares for upcoming assignments, including the Unity Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
This assurance from the Ministry is expected to ease tensions and allow the technical team to focus fully on their duties ahead of a critical period for Ghanaian football.
