Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has commended the Black Queens for their gallant showing in the semi-final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Despite narrowly missing out on a place in the final after a penalty shootout loss to host nation Morocco, the team earned widespread praise for their resilience and fighting spirit throughout the 120 minutes of action.
“Taking the hosts through 120 minutes of spirited football and contesting the result on penalties reflects both your determination and your commitment to the national cause,” the Minister said in a statement following the match.
Hon. Adams also noted that the Black Queens’ performance signaled a promising future for Ghanaian women’s football.
“This campaign marks the beginning of a new chapter and we look forward to the successes that lie ahead.”
The Black Queens will now turn their attention to the third-place playoff, where they face South Africa on Friday.
