Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are backing Abdul Fatawu Issahaku for the highly prestigious FIFA Puskas award which will be given to the scorer of the best goal of 2023.
Their public acknowledgment comes following his wonder goal for the Black Meteors against Algeria in the CAF U23 qualifiers on Friday night.
Fatawu pulled a live rabbit out of a seemingly empty hat with an audacious strike from the centre line to give Ghana a 1-0 lead at 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba.
The match eventually ended in a 1-1 stalemate with the second leg scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday.
Ghana is hoping to advance to the U23 Championship and fight for a place to play in the next Olympic Games which will be staged in Paris.
A win in the double-legged tie will confirm Ghana’s place in the tournament which will be staged from 24 June and 8 July 2023.
