This week will see the Matchday 2 fixtures being played in the Europa League and Thursday evening features this upcoming clash in Group D between Sporting Braga and Union Berlin at the Estádio Municipal de Braga with the hosts looking to post back to back wins in this competition following last week’s win in Sweden.

A solid 2-0 win away from home at Malmo saw Sporting Braga’s Europa League campaign off to a winning start and the hosts now return to the more familiar surroundings of their Estádio Municipal de Braga not only looking for more of the same against Union Berlin, but also to pick up a seventh win on the trot in all competitions.

Indeed, Sporting Braga still remain unbeaten after their opening seven games of this new season which also includes victories collected against Famalicao, Maritimo, Arouca, Vitoria Guimaraes and Rio Ave, whilst also amassing a total of 18 goals in the process as well.

Results at home in the Europa League have also been encouraging for Sporting Braga who have suffered just two defeats out of their last 19 ties on home soil, winning 12 of these games.

Union Berlin by contrast made a disappointing start to their respective Europa League campaign as the German club were handed a 1-0 defeat at home to Belgian side Union St Gilloise and they now face a tricky outing to Portugal on Thursday night to take on an in-form Sporting Braga outfit.

Nevertheless, Union Berlin will also fancy their chances of securing a positive result in Braga on Thursday.

The visitors have lost just once in their last 13 matches across competitions, which was last week’s Matchday 1 defeat but the German club have also registered eight wins within this period as well.

However, Union Berlin’s rise onto the European club stage has only been recent and accordingly, their exposure at Europa League level has been limited to just five ties overall.

This has produced just the one win which came in the form of a 3-0 home win over Finnish side, Haka, but has also yielded two defeats as well.

Having lost to Lovech and Union St Gilloise, Union Berlin look to have their work cut out at Sporting Braga as the more experienced hosts seek a seventh consecutive win here.
