Spain manager Luis Enrique justifies inclusion of Ghanaian youngster Nico Williams in the latest call-up

The head coach of the Spain national team, Luis Enrique has opened up on why he has included Ghanaian youngster Nico Williams in his latest call-up.

Born in Spain but of Ghanaian descent, the Athletic Bilbao forward is eligible to play for both Spain and Ghana at the senior national team level.

Having monitored the impressive performance of Nico Williams this season, Spain coach Luis Enrique has included him in his squad for upcoming games against Switzerland and Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

Addressing a press conference, the coach says he has invited the talented attacker because he will add a lot to the team with his quality.

“Nico is a very interesting player with wonderful speed to be able to overwhelm, he is doing very well,” Luis Enrique said.

On his part, U-21 coach Luis de la Fuente added, “Nico is verticality, overflow, speed, talent… he is a player who has many records. I am happy that Luis Enrique has called Nico, that reinforces the work that is done in the inferiors.”

Meanwhile, the older brother of Nico Williams, Inaki Williams has been named in the Ghana squad for the upcoming international friendly matches against Brazil and Nicaragua.
