Southampton are in discussions to secure the signature of Ghanaian attacker Joseph Paintsil, following the breakdown of his intended transfer to Leeds United.

The Championship team swiftly entered the fray when the Leeds deal fell apart due to contractual disagreements.

The Saints has put forward enticing terms that benefit both the club and the player, with negotiations set to carry on throughout the evening.

Paintsil has been at KRC Genk since 2018 but spent a season on loan to Turkish side Ankaragucu in 2020-21.

The winger has featured 143 times for Genk, scoring 32 goals.
