South Korea may have beaten Ghana in Tuesday’s friendly, but head coach Hong Myung-bo was far from satisfied with his team’s overall display.
The hosts edged the Black Stars 1-0 at the Seoul Stadium, with Lee Tae-Seok striking the only goal midway through the second half.
However, Hong’s focus was firmly on his own players, particularly the midfield group he felt fell short of expectations.
“Overall, the match did not go the way we wanted it to, especially in the first half. I think we had some problems with our play in the midfield,” he said.
He noted that the tactical tweaks he introduced at halftime helped steady the team after the break.
“We made some adjustments for the second half and our substitutes performed better,” Hong added.
Despite the win, the Korean boss believes the performance left plenty of room for improvement.
The fixture marked the nations’ first meeting since Ghana’s dramatic 3–2 victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
