South Africa will host the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, taking over from Morocco, according to Deputy Minister of Sports, Peace Mabe.
The tournament is just 60 days away from kickoff, scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
The 2026 WAFCON will feature an expanded 16-team format, with the top four teams securing direct berths to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Defending champions Nigeria will look to retain their title, while contenders like Cameroon, South Africa, and Morocco will be chasing continental glory.
The tournament will also see debutants Cape Verde and Malawi, marking significant milestones in the growth of women’s football in their respective nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to issue an official statement confirming the change.
CAF and Morocco are yet to issue statements about the change, however.
