Peterborough Expected to Narrowly Beat Shrewsbury in the FA Cup

As the World Cup carries on, so does the world’s oldest football competition as Shrewsbury Town and Peterborough United meet in the FA Cup at Montgomery Waters Meadow as two League One sides look to improve on what has been a struggle for them in the league so far.

Shrewsbury are currently sitting 16th in League One after a tough couple of weeks means they are now sixth-game winless in the division after losing to Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

This loss also came after losing to Barnsley too, meaning a two-game losing run. What’s more, losses and draws to Charlton Athletic, Oxford United, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle have all kept them winless in League One for some time.

In the FA Cup, however, they managed to beat York City without the need for a replay. Jordan Shipley scored after just three minutes for Steve Cotteril’s men, before Luke Leahy netted another just prior to half time before York brought one back seconds later.

Shrewsbury are still nine points above the bottom three in League One and a relegation fight is not really on the cards this season unless they keep on with just a poor winless run in the third tier.

On the other hand, Shrewsbury are only two points behind 12th-placed Wycombe Wanderers in the table, meaning a win in their next League One game could throw them into the top half if other results go their way.

The club are also just three points behind opponent’s Lincoln in the table, but with eight losses so far, they have also lost twice as many games as Lincoln.

Shrewsbury’s 17 goals in 19 League One games is also alarming, but with 21 goals conceded, they have one of the best defensive records in the division too.

As for Peterborough, they needed a reply to get past Salford City in the FA Cup first round with Ephron Mason-Clark scoring to break the deadlock before a double from Jack Marriot.

At the same time, Salford didn’t have a single shot on target on home soil that day, and it ended up being a very comfortable victory for the Posh. They are up into fourth now in League One too and are fighting for promotion.

Forebet predicts a close game here but one that Peterborough should end up winning. Forebet predicts a win for Peterborough and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
