National Sports Authority Board Chairman, Mr. Seth Panwum, has suggested appointing ‘ordinary individuals’, rather than football insiders, to the Black Stars Management Committee in the wake of Ghana’s disappointing performance at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Black Stars failed to progress past the group stage, not winning a single game in Group B.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Mr. Panwum expressed his belief that people who are not involved in running football clubs would make more impartial decisions regarding player selection for the national team, as opposed to those with vested interests and personal motives.
“The committee failed to motivate the players to perform at their best. We need to have ordinary people on the Black Stars’ management committee, not individuals who manage teams and influence player call-ups based on personal interests instead of merit,” he stated.
“Richmond Lamptey should have replaced Majeed Ashimeru in the Mozambique game. However, Lamptey was sidelined due to personal reasons.”
Ghana’s campaign ended with a loss to Cape Verde and draws against Egypt and Mozambique, leading to their group stage elimination from the tournament held in Ivory Coast.
