Morocco coach Walid Regragui says reaching the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup is down to the hard work of his players not a miracle.
The Atlas Lions became the first African country in history to reach the final four of the global showpiece after a 1-0 quarter-final win over Portugal.
As quoted by Moroccan outlet Le Matin, coach Walid expressed his immense pride after the achievement.
Regragui explained that the feat was “not a miracle, but the result of our teamwork,” before continuing: “We came across a great Portuguese team with a lot of talent. We held on as much as possible and we got away with a lot of injuries. You saw the captain leave with an injury, Aguerd and Mazraoui, but the guys who came on continued to fight.
We’ve created a group with a strong state of mind, everyone is fighting, everyone is happy and our fans support us. I told the team before the match to write history for Africa. They did it. I’m very happy… We have to fight for our people, to make them happy.
Today, Africa has returned to centre stage… I want to thank all the staff and the Moroccan federation, it’s not just me here… This isn’t over yet.”
Morocco will face current World Champions France at the Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday at 7pm.
