Semenyo poised for Man City debut against Newcastle on Tuesday

Antoine Semenyo could be thrown straight into the deep end as Manchester City prepare for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle, with the Ghanaian winger in line for a rapid debut just days after completing his £65 million move from AFC Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old joined City on a five-and-a-half-year deal after the champions activated his release clause, and Pep Guardiola is understood to be considering him as an immediate option as City chase silverware on four fronts.

Semenyo arrives at the Etihad with Premier League experience and a reputation for pace, power and direct attacking play, attributes City have lacked at times this season.

His ability to operate on either flank or through the middle could give Guardiola a fresh tactical weapon against a Newcastle side known for their intensity and physicality.

A debut at St James’ Park would represent a statement start for Semenyo’s City career, underlining the club’s belief that he is ready to contribute now, not later.

With the Carabao Cup offering City a realistic route to early silverware, Guardiola may use the semi-final stage to fast-track the winger’s integration.

Semenyo has already spoken of his excitement at joining City and his confidence that his best football lies ahead.

A first appearance in a high-stakes cup tie would be an early test of that belief and a chance to show he can deliver at the very highest level.

If selected on Tuesday night, Semenyo’s City journey will begin under the brightest lights, with expectation matching opportunity from the first whistle.
