Antoine Semenyo is set to be available for Manchester City when they lock horns with Newcastle United in tonight’s EFL Cup semi-final following an amendment to the competition’s eligibility rules.
The 26-year-old Ghana international recently completed a £65 million switch from Bournemouth and has wasted little time settling into life at the Etihad Stadium.
He announced his arrival in style by finding the net on debut during City’s emphatic 10-1 FA Cup win over Exeter City.
Earlier in the season, Semenyo featured for Bournemouth in the second round of the EFL Cup against Brentford, coming off the bench in August.
Under the old regulations, that appearance would have prevented him from turning out for another club in the same tournament.
However, a rule change introduced this season now allows players to represent two different teams in the EFL Cup within one campaign.
That adjustment has cleared Semenyo to feature at this advanced stage of the competition.
His availability hands Pep Guardiola extra firepower as City chase a place in the final.
