The next instalment of Major League Soccer’s California Clasico is set to go down this weekend, with the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy going head-to-head in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Earthquakes are rooted to the foot of the Western Conference after winning just three of their 16 MLS games this season.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy find themselves fifth – nine points clear of San Jose and six points behind first-place Los Angeles FC.
The Quakes have only managed to win one of their previous six MLS clashes, registering three draws and two defeats in that time.
They also head into this clash on a five-game winless run across all competitions, having recorded two draws and three losses since their last win.
That said, San Jose have enjoyed plenty of success on home soil of late. Indeed, they have avoided defeat in each of their past seven home games in MLS.
Having lost just one of their previous 11 Major League Soccer home matches, the Earthquakes will be confident of frustrating the Galaxy.
As for the Galaxy, they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to USL Championship side Sacramento Republic in the US Open Cup in midweek.
That means they have managed to win just two of their last seven outings in all competitions, recording two draws and three losses in the process.
On a brighter note, the Galaxy boast one of the best defensive records in the entire league – having conceded 16 goals in 15 games this term.
At the opposite end of the pitch, however, they have only managed to score 18 goals this season. They will need to improve in attack if they want to maintain a playoff berth.
Head-to-head: The Galaxy have won just three of their previous ten Major League Soccer meetings with San Jose.
Both San Jose and the Galaxy have won two of their past four meetings, suggesting that this weekend’s clash should be a close-fought encounter.
Team news: San Jose are currently without George Asomani and Javier Lopez, who are absent due to injury.
As for the Galaxy, they have no injury worries. Javier Hernandez and Dejan Joveljic have both scored seven goals in all competitions in 2022.
Although the Quakes find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference, they are expected to rise to the occasion of the California Clasico.
For that reason, Forebet predicts that San Jose and LA Galaxy will play out a low-scoring draw this weekend.
