FC Samartex 1996 coach Annor Walker has admitted his team showed Asante Kotoko too much respect in their betPawa Premier League encounter on Saturday.
The Porcupine Warriors scored two first half goals to beat Samartex 2-1 in front of their home crowd at Nsenkyire Park in Sameraboi.
Enock Morrison opened the scoring for the visutors in the 18th minute before Rocky Dwanena doubled their advantage 9 minutes later.
Kotoko went into the break with a 2-0 cushioning and played exceeding well in the second half to prevent the ghosts from coming into the game.
After missing several golden opportunities, FC Samartex finally pulled one back through Ebenezer Acquah in the 89th minute but the goal wasn’t enough as Asante Kotoko held on to register their 9th win of the season.
“During the course of the game, I noticed we gave Kotoko too much respect and due to the mentality at which Kotoko approached the game” Annor Walker told reporters after the game.
“I told my bench they (Kotoko) will try to get an early goal to cushion them and make sure they get to the driving seat because they know if the game should travel at length, things will be difficult for them.
“My defenders also made it easy for them to score the 2 goals but in total, I think we overly showed Kotoko too much respect.”
