Sam Johnson advises Baba Rahman to focus on club career over Black Stars return

Ghanaian football legend Sam Johnson has advised Baba Abdul Rahman to focus on his club career rather than returning to the Black Stars.

Johnson’s remarks follow Rahman’s stellar form for Greek side PAOK this season, where he has made 10 appearances and scored three goals.

Rahman’s performances have sparked calls for his return to the national team, but Johnson, who was speaking to Pan-Africa Football, urged the left-back to turn down such requests.

“If I were him [Baba Rahman], I won’t come because he has suffered a lot from Ghanaians, including some of us.

“If I were to be him, I don’t care whether I’m playing like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, I won’t come. But that decision is up to him. If I were in his position, I’m done with the national team,” he added.

Rahman last featured for Ghana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Central African Republic in Kumasi.

He faced jeers from sections of the crowd during the match, prompting his withdrawal from the squad for the 2023 AFCON despite being included in coach Chris Hughton’s provisional 55-man list.

The 30-year-old has earned 51 caps for Ghana.
