Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams is confident his side can progress from the group stage of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, despite being drawn into a tough group.
The Premier Soccer League champions will open their campaign against South Korean side Ulsan HD on Tuesday, June 17, at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
“We want to play our football, and we believe that we’ve got enough to get out of the group and that’d be huge because when you look at the names in that group, it’s big names in there,” Williams said.
“It will be tough, but we believe we will get out of it and show people who Mamelodi Sundowns are,” the South African goalkeeper added.
Sundowns, who narrowly lost the CAF Champions League final to Egypt’s Pyramids FC, are aiming to leave their mark on the tournament. They have been drawn into Group F, where they will also face Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and Brazilian heavyweights Fluminense.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14, features 32 of the best clubs from around the globe in a new, expanded format hosted across the United States.
