Thomas Tuchel has outlined how Romelu Lukaku can salvage his Chelsea career.
After an excellent, title-winning 2020/21 with Inter Milan, it was expected Lukaku would be able to push Chelsea firmly into the Premier League title picture this term.
However, despite his £97.5m price-tag, Lukaku has underwhelmed in west London and has not scored in his last nine outings across all competitions.
Such poor form has created speculation around the 28-year-old’s future. And now, when quizzed on Lukaku’s future recently, Tuchel has outlined what the striker must do to salvage his Blues career:
“That is a question you need to ask him. For us it is clear, we can play with Romelu and we can be very strong with Romelu and we proved it,” Tuchel said. “And we will prove it if he is involved and keeps involved mentally and he stays involved in the situation to go through this he can grow from it and come back stronger.
“It is always like this and it is for sure disappointing for him and not what we expected, not what we expected at the moment, but it is not finished and we will not give in. We never give in with any players and we never give up. We will push him, we will push as far as we can and as long as the player stays involved in the mentality that is needed to bring a team forward he can still be a crucial player.”

Chelsea vs Arsenal
Chelsea’s next outing and Lukaku’s next chance to prove himself comes on Wednesday evening vs Arsenal.
Chelsea head into the game with very little to play for as their top-four spot is all but confirmed.
Arsenal, meanwhile, can go level on points with Tottenham if they win on Wednesday.
