Rockson Yeboah has started his new chapter with CA Osasuna after completing his first training session with the Spanish La Liga club on Friday.
The 23-year-old Ghanaian centre-back joined Osasuna from Swedish side IFK Goteborg in a transfer worth €3m. The move gives Yeboah the opportunity to continue his development in one of Europe’s leading domestic competitions and represents another significant step in his career.
Osasuna reached an agreement with Goteborg for the defender’s transfer before confirming a five-year contract for Yeboah. His deal with Los Rojillos includes a €30m release clause, while Goteborg will retain 30% of any surplus generated by a future sale.
Yeboah took part in training for the first time as Osasuna prepare for the start of their La Liga campaign. Their opening fixture is against Levante on Monday, August 24.
The Ghanaian will be hoping to make an early impression on his new coaching staff and team-mates as he competes for a place in the Osasuna defence. The opening match will provide his first opportunity to be involved in the club’s preparations for the new season, although his immediate role in the fixture has not been specified.
His arrival marks a notable change in surroundings after his spell with IFK Goteborg. Having established himself in Sweden, Yeboah will now look to adapt to Spanish football and the demands of competing in La Liga.
The centre-back’s combative style will be tested at a higher level as he seeks to become an important part of the Osasuna backline. He will also be aiming to settle quickly in Spain and make the most of the long-term opportunity provided by his five-year agreement.
For Osasuna, the transfer brings in a young Ghanaian defender on a sizeable commitment, with the €30m release clause reflecting the club’s long-term plans for Yeboah. For Goteborg, the retained share of any future surplus leaves the Swedish club with a financial interest in the player’s progress after his departure.
Yeboah is now ready to begin his first season in Spanish football, with Osasuna’s meeting with Levante set to provide the immediate focus. After completing his first session with the club, he will hope to establish himself at the heart of the defence and play a part in the team’s opening fixture of the La Liga campaign.
