Samartex coach Nurudeen Amadu believes Richmond Lamptey and Emmanuel Keyekeh could have done more to benefit the Black Stars at the just-ended 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Lamptey, who plies his trade for Asante Kotoko made the final 27-man squad for the continental showpiece but had to watch from the stands in the three games.
Keyekeh, who has been impressive for Samartex this season missed out on the squad for the AFCON tournament.
But Nurudeen Amadu thinks the duo could have contributed more to benefit the team at the tournament considering their output in the local scene.
However, the former King Faisal trainer has advocated for more playing time and opportunities for home-based players in the Black Stars.
“Emmanuel Keyekeh ought to have been called up to the Black Stars, in my opinion. He could have done more to benefit the team, based on what the midfielders accomplished at the AFCON”
“This is not from me alone but other coaches say the same thing about him because he plays so well. If the professionals can’t finish the job, it’s time the team managers give some local players an opportunity to show off their skills”
“Richmond Lamptey could have performed better, looking at his statistics in the local league, but that didn’t happen. In football, it’s important to give players a chance”
