Wayne Rooney allegedly turned down the option of joining Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United backroom team.

Ten Hag’s backroom team will accompany him in making the transfer to English football, although it has been widely reported that the 52-year-old would want to hire someone with club expertise.

According to The Athletic, that figure will not be Rooney, who is alleged to have responded negatively to recent informal contact.

According to the article, the United great, who has been developing his own management career at Derby County, would quit his current position only to take a top position elsewhere.

Additionally, United are thought to be in the process of recruiting Steve McClaren, a former United assistant and a former FC Twente man acquainted with Ten Hag.
