Reports: Man United join race for Christian Eriksen

Erik ten Hag is allegedly desperate to sign Brentford player Christian Eriksen this summer.

After being equipped with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator after having a heart collapse at Euro 2020 last summer, the 30-year-old made a miraculous comeback to return to the Premier League with the Bees (ICD).

Eriksen was forced to leave Inter Milan when the ICD was installed, prompting Brentford to sign the former Tottenham Hotspur player on a six-month deal in January.

Eriksen scored one goal and added four assists in 11 Premier League appearances in 2021-22, and his future is uncertain as he prepares to become a free agent at the end of the month.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United has joined the lengthy list of teams hoping to get Eriksen on a free transfer this summer, with Ten Hag seeing the playmaker as a perfect low-cost addition.

Eriksen was invited to Amsterdam for training sessions to help him regain his fitness following his extended sabbatical, and the former Ajax manager was claimed to be “hugely pleased” by the midfielder.

According to the article, Brentford are prepared to make Eriksen their highest-paid player ever if he signs a new contract, but the lure of European football may be too strong for the Dane as he prepares for the 2022 World Cup.

Everton and Tottenham have also been linked with Eriksen, who left the Lilywhites in January 2020 after a six-and-a-half-year tenure to join Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan.

Spurs’ Champions League status might give them an advantage in the competition for Eriksen, who scored 69 goals and made 90 assists in 305 appearances for the North London side.
