Rennes: Génésio tackles OL (again)

Three years after the departure of Bruno Génésio, some Olympique Lyonnais supporters still harbor a certain resentment towards their former coach. And it is not this new statement from the Stade Rennais coach that is likely to improve the situation.

Bruno Genesio, Rennes Stade Rennais

Between the public at Groupama Stadium and Bruno Génésio, relations were sometimes very tense. During his tenure as coach from December 2015 to June 2019, the 56-year-old technician never managed to win unanimous support. Despite a few outbursts, against PSG in particular, many Les Gones fans criticized him for not getting the most out of a very large squad.

The announcement of his departure in June 2019 was therefore welcomed by many. For his part, Bruno Génésio has not given up his job. After a short adventure in China, the Frenchman quickly returned to France to take the reins of Stade Rennais in March 2021, a rather profitable choice for the native of Lyon.

Génésio congratulates Rennes supporters by attacking those of Lyon

Since his arrival with the Reds and Blacks, Bruno Génésio has clearly established himself among the most prominent coaches in the country. During the past season, the latter was even crowned best coach in the French championship, a great reward for this father. At the same time, OL unfortunately did not enjoy as much success.

For some observers, the former turkish head of Groupama Stadium has also retained a certain resentment towards the Rhone team. It must be said that Bruno Génésio does not hesitate to scratch and to say what he thinks. Latest example to date with this statement made after the victory against Angers (1-2). Referring to the support of the Breton public outside, the 50-year-old could not help making a comparison that could annoy the most fervent OL fans. “Even in Lyon, I don’t remember having seen such an atmosphere and received such support outside. It’s very positive”said the boss of the Reds and Blacks.
