Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has admitted his side failed to make the most of their chances after being held to a 1-1 draw by Mali in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Group A encounter, played at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah on Friday, December 26, 2025, lived up to its billing as a high-intensity contest between two title hopefuls.
The Atlas Lions took the lead before the half-hour mark when Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Díaz calmly converted from the penalty spot, giving the hosts control heading into the break.
However, Mali responded after the interval and drew level in the 64th minute, with Lassine Sinayoko also converting from the spot to restore parity and ensure the points were shared.
Speaking after the match, Regragui felt Morocco did enough to secure victory but lacked the cutting edge to put the game beyond reach.
“It was a high-intensity match. We played the game we needed to play, but we still have situations where we need to be more clinical. We should have killed the game off, but it was a good test for us. In the end, it’s a good result,” he said.
Despite the draw, Morocco remain top of Group A with four points from two matches and will look to secure qualification for the knockout stage when they face Zambia in their final group game.
