Ghana midfielder Michael Essien is among six players to be shed by Real Madrid at the end of the season, a newspaper in Spain has reported.
Accroding El Economista Real Madrid intend to cut loose six senior players in the summer to make room for new signings and the promotion of younger players from the club’s academy.
Essien, who has been impressive at Real since his shock loan move from Chelsea in August, was named in the list of players to be shed by the European giants.
Antonio Adán and Ricardo Carvalho will be allowed to come off contract, while on-loan midfielder Michael Essien will return to Chelsea.
Raul Albiol and Kaka will be put up for sale and Real will also listen to offers for one striker.
It is however not know if Chelsea are demanding the return of Essien as the decision to allow him to join Real on loan has been described by many of their fans as a mistake.
The impact of Ghanaian midfielder Essien is still being discussed by fans of Chelsea because of his performances at Real Madrid where he is on a season-long loan.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who joined the Blues in 2005 from Lyon, moved to the Bernabeu to link up with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, the man who brought him to Stamford Bridge.
This has led to some debates about the rights and wrongs of the decision to loan him out to Real Madrid.
Essien has been a pivotal member of the Blues midfield during his six seasons in west London, winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and one Champions League winners’ medal.
