Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei from Granada, with the 21-year-old set to join the club’s reserve side Castilla as part of their long-term plan to develop young players.
Naasei can play at centre-back or right-back and stands 1.85 metres tall. Real Madrid believe his physical strength and defensive versatility give him the potential to progress within the club’s academy structure, known as La Fabrica.
The player joined Granada’s academy in 2023 after moving from Emmanuel City’s academy in Ghana. He quickly advanced through the club’s youth teams before earning promotion to the reserve side.
Naasei made his first-team debut in the Spanish second division during the 2024-25 season. He has also played in each of Granada’s opening two second-division matches this season, performances which strengthened Real Madrid’s interest after the Spanish giants had monitored his development since last season.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the transfer is worth about two million euros. Naasei is expected to sign a two-year contract, with the possibility of extending the deal to five years if he is promoted to Real Madrid’s first team.
His move to Castilla represents the next stage of a career that began to attract attention during his time at Granada. Real Madrid view his athletic qualities and ability to operate in more than one defensive position as important foundations for further development within the club’s academy system.
The agreement was announced officially by Real Madrid on Thursday evening. The club’s confirmation described Naasei as a central defender and right-back who will continue his development with Castilla.
The move also gives Naasei an opportunity to adapt to the demands of Real Madrid’s football structure while competing at reserve-team level. Castilla is used by the club as a pathway for emerging players seeking to establish themselves within the senior squad, and Naasei’s arrival forms part of that development model.

Naasei’s progression at Granada has been rapid since his arrival from Ghana. After working through the academy setup, he reached the reserve team and then appeared for the senior side in Spain’s second tier. His participation in Granada’s first two league matches of the current season further underlined the progress that had brought him to Real Madrid’s attention.
The Ghanaian now joins Castilla with the prospect of earning a longer-term place in Real Madrid’s first-team plans. Should he make that step up, his initial two-year agreement could be extended to five years, according to AS.
