Real Betis Target Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjetey ahead of summer transfer window

Spanish La Liga outfit Real Betis have set their sights on highly-rated Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjei Adjetey ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, sources close to the player have confirmed.

The 21-year-old center-back has been a standout performer for FC Basel since joining the Swiss side in 2022 from Ghana Premier League club Berekum Chelsea.

Towering and composed, Adjetey has become a key figure in Basel’s backline, playing over 30 matches this season.

He capped off the campaign in style, playing the full 90 minutes in Basel’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Luzern; securing the club’s 12th Swiss Super League title in the process.

Adjetey’s consistency and maturity in defense have not gone unnoticed. Several European clubs are monitoring his situation, with Real Betis and English Premier League side Brentford emerging as the frontrunners.

Reports from Spain indicate that Real Betis have already submitted an initial proposal, signalling their intent to beat the competition for the Ghanaian’s signature.

Should the move materialize, Adjetey would become one of the few Ghanaian defenders to break into La Liga in recent years; underscoring his rapid rise and growing reputation in European football.

Further developments are expected in the coming weeks as the summer window officially opens.
