Spanish side Real Betis have begun negotiations with FC Basel for the signing of Ghanaian centre-back Jonas Adjei Adjetey in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a priority target for the La Liga club as they seek to reinforce their defence ahead of a busy 2025/26 season, which includes UEFA Europa League participation.
Adjetey has been impressive for Basel, making 38 appearances across all competitions last season and playing a key role in their Swiss Super League title win. His performances have sparked interest from clubs in Spain, France, and England.
However, Real Betis are currently leading the race for his signature. An initial €4 million bid has reportedly been rejected, with Basel valuing the defender at €8 million.
Adjetey, under contract until 2028, is said to be open to a move abroad, with La Liga or the Premier League as preferred destinations.
The former Berekum Chelsea player joined Basel in 2022 and has since earned praise for his composure, ball distribution, and tactical discipline. He received his senior Black Stars debut last year and has two caps for Ghana.
