On Monday night, Espanyol hosts Real Sociedad at the RCDE Stadium, as the home side looks to escape La Liga’s relegation zone and La Real hope to boost their top-four hopes.

The Catalans are one of many teams in La Liga that look set for a fight to the end to preserve their top-flight status. Espanyol are currently just two points clear of the relegation zone after a recent poor run of league form.

Diego Martinez’s team has won just two of their previous 11 games in the Spanish top flight. Last time out, they drew 1-1 with the top six chasing Osasuna.

Espanyol may have won just two of their previous seven home games in La Liga, but they have also lost just once in the run, with draws dominating their home form.

Their recent home league games have been low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four matches in the Spanish top flight.

La Real are currently in third place in the Spanish top-flight table, but Imanol’s team has experienced a slight blip of late, as they are now winless in three games in all competitions.

Last time out, they suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat against Real Valladolid. The game saw Sociedad fail to score in their third straight game in all competitions.

The lack of Real Sociedad goals has contributed to eight of their last nine competitive games producing under 2.5 goals.

Despite their recent blip in form, La Real has still won five of their previous eight matches in the Spanish top flight. They are also unbeaten in their last four away games in La Liga, having recorded three wins in the run.
