This weekend sees the start of a new Austrian Bundesliga season and this Sunday features this upcoming encounter between Rapid Vienna and Ried at the Allianz Stadion with both teams keen to make a good impression on the opening day of this new term.
The Austrian domestic cup competition got underway last week and Rapid Vienna secured their passage through to the next round with a 1-0 win away from home at Regionaliiga outfit, Treibach, and the hosts will be hoping they can make a similar start to the Bundesliga season this Sunday too.

Rapid Vienna have also qualified for the Europa Conference League by virtue of recording a 4-1 win on aggregate against WSG Tirol in the play-off final, despite previous results being fairly disappointing.
Prior to that vital two-legged win, Rapid Vienna had endured a six-match winless run in the Austrian top flight which included defeats to Sturm Graz, Salzburg and Wolfsberger.
But form at home remained fairly stable with Vienna losing just two of their last 12 home games of the season.
Ried also progressed through to the 2nd round of the Austrian cup thanks to a resounding 4-0 victory away from home at Landesliga side, FC Stadlau.
But the visitors are expecting a much tougher assignment this Sunday when they travel to the Allianz Stadion to face Rapid Vienna.
This cup win would have certainly been a welcome start for the visitors as their challenge for a possible top six finish in last season’s Bundesliga fizzled out in disappointing fashion.
The visitors failed to win any of their last seven matches of the previous term, drawing five and losing twice, the losses being incurred against WSG Tirol in home and away defeats.
While the bigger picture shows that Ried managed to collect just the one league win from their final 12 games of the season.
Results away from home have also found Ried somewhat lacking as the visitors have claimed just two victories in their last 20 outings on the road in the domestic top flight.
Rapid Vienna have won two of the previous three meetings against Ried and with home advantage behind them this Sunday, the hosts look set to make a positive start to this new Bundesliga campaign.
