Fresh drama as Ralf Rangnick responds to Lingard informing Paul Scholes of Man United ‘disaster’

Fresh drama appears to be brewing at Manchester United, surrounding boss Ralf Rangnick and midfield outcast Jesse Lingard.

The Red Devils, of course, were back in action a short time ago, succumbing to yet another damaging defeat at the hands of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in north London.

On the back of the action coming to a close at the Emirates, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of the frustrations of certain members of United’s squad beginning to boil over.

And one such individual whose concerns have since been made public knowledge comes in the form of Jesse Lingard.

Speaking as part of his post-match analysis role for DAZN on Saturday, Red Devils legend Paul Scholes provided an insight into a brief conversation that he held with Lingard following the full-time whistle in north London.

And, in comments which were always likely to stir up something of a storm, Scholes, quoting his former teammate, went as far as to label the situation in the Man United dressing room nothing short of ‘a disaster’:

The drama, though, did not end there…

Speaking in his own post-match press conference, the suggestion was then put to Ralf Rangnick that the situation at the club had descended into, as Lingard put it, a ‘disaster’.

And, in a clear-as-day jibe at his midfield star, United’s boss urged the media presence in attendance to ‘ask Jesse Lingard’:

Xhaka seals Gunners triumph

Turning attentions back towards the action itself at the Emirates this afternoon, a pulsating affair packed with drama, chances and goals ultimately culminated in Arsenal emerging on the right side of a 3-1 scoreline.

After Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka guided the hosts into a 2-goal advantage just beyond the half-hour mark, Manchester United swiftly hit back courtesy of the returning Cristiano Ronaldo.

A thunderbolt on the part of Granit Xhaka, just minutes on from Bruno Fernandes fluffing his lines from the penalty spot at the other end, though, ensured that Arsenal positioned themselves as clear frontrunners for the Premier League’s final top-four berth, in the process all-but ending the hopes of their opponents of clinching Champions League football for next season.
