Rangers set to bounce back with Scottish Cup victory

On Saturday afternoon, Rangers and Hearts go head-to-head at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup final, as both teams seek cup glory.

Rangers

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team go into this clash on the back of Europa League heartbreak on Wednesday night. Rangers drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt in normal and extra-time, only to lose a penalty shootout 5-4, leaving the German team to lift the trophy. The draw in Seville ended a run of four straight wins for Rangers in all competitions.

This game allows the Gers to turn heartbreak into elevation, although a domestic cup triumph may not be looked upon with the same level of success as winning a European trophy.

Rangers road to the final was a comfortable one, except when they faced arch-rivals Celtic in the semi-finals when they needed extra time to beat the Hoops 2-1. They had not conceded a goal in the previous three rounds of the competition while scoring at least three goals in the previous three rounds too.

Hearts

The Jambos finished third place in the SPL table, a massive 28 points adrift of Rangers who finished as runners-up. However, despite the points gap, Robbie Neilson’s team will likely be happy with their campaign.

What they will not be happy about is their end of season results, as Hearts head into this game on the back of three straight defeats in the SPL. In fact, the team from the Scottish capital suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Saturday’s opponents on the final day of the season.

Like Rangers, the Jambos made it through to the final in a comfortable fashion, scoring at least three goals in three of the four previous rounds of the competition.
