Rangers: GvB confirms Alex Lowry talks

Glasgow Rangers could be set for a massive boost concerning starlet Alex Lowry, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst has dropped a big update regarding the young midfielder’s future.

What’s the talk?

During his pre-match press conference on Friday, Van Bronckhorst revealed that Gers are “in talks” regarding a new deal for Lowry, before the Dutchman dubbed the 18-year-old “one of our biggest talents coming through the academy.”

This is news that is sure to leave the Ibrox faithful buzzing, as recent reports had linked Lowry with a move to Newcastle United this summer.

Should Rangers keep Alex Lowry?

Alex Lowry could be the future for Rangers

Lowry has been one of the highlights for the Ibrox side since his introduction to the first-team squad in the Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion in January. The midfielder emerged from the bench to replace an injured Ianis Hagi and scored on his debut for the Premiership side.

With further games against Livingston and Annan Athletic, Van Bronckhorst looks like he has unearthed a real diamond in the heart of the Rangers midfield. His contract is due to expire at the end of next season, there have been clubs circling around the 18-year-old.

And, the Dutchman could well be right in his claim concerning the teenager’s future, as Lowry and his recent performances, not just for Rangers, but for Scotland U19s, prove that he has what it takes to succeed at the top level.

It shows how talented he is that Newcastle are aiming to sign him and, although he could turn into a Premier League standard player in the coming years, a move down south right now would not appear to be the wisest choice.

Indeed, Ross Wilson and Van Bronckhorst should be throwing the boat out to secure the 18-year-old to a long-term deal as soon as possible – as the youngster could well become the future of Rangers.
