Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has admitted that the club need ‘a number of new players’ this summer, before suggesting that the number could be between 6 and 8 ‘top’ players, to give them any chance of managing a complete rebuild in the coming seasons.
The Red Devils have endured a miserable season to date, and are now certain to miss out on Champions League football for next season and look certain to qualify for the Europa League; a long way from the initial title charge that the Red side of Manchester had envisioned.
And, speaking ahead of the clash with Brighton on Saturday afternoon, in which a win would effectively secure a sixth-placed finish, Rangnick revealed that although he has not yet spoken to incoming boss Erik ten Hag, he expects that the club will need 6 to 8 new players in the first team.

Strikers on the list
Chief among those are expected to be forwards, with Cristiano Ronaldo now 37 years old, Edinson Cavani leaving the club in the summer and the futures of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial unclear.
And, speaking earlier in the season, Rangnick revealed that strikers were the main priority, perhaps as many as two.
‘Cristiano is not a central striker or does not want to play in that position,’ said Rangnick.
‘It’s obvious that the club needs, I would say, at least, two new strikers who just give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers.
‘Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers’
Beyond this, they are likely to look for a centre-back, a pair of central midfielders, and potentially a new fullback for either flank.
It is set to be a big summer at Old Trafford.
