The eldest son of the three-time African Player of the Year is one of twenty-three players picked by Milovan Rajevac for the African Nations Championships in the Ivory Coast and knows the pressure will be on him to do well.
The Sekondi Eleven Wise player has had to live in the shadow of his younger brother Dede Ayew who captained the U-20s to African youth glory and reckons this could be his moment to shine.
“I know the weight of the surname I carry, and I am ready for that,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “I have never felt at any moment that I am lagging behind, but this presents a fine opportunity to establish myself, too.”
Rahim who previously represented Ghana at the U-23 level is not close to a replica of Abedi. He plays mostly at left-back or in defensive midfield, but says there is a lot of experience he will be bringing from his family background.
“We practically live football there and given what my father has done and the path my brothers are taking it is natural that I will be held to a certain standard. I will do my best to live up to that.”
