Galatasaray leaders have announced the color on Mauro Icardi. The Turkish club plans to permanently retain the services of the Argentine striker, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
On September 8, Paris Saint-Germain managed to find a base for Mauro Icardi. Pushed out by the club in the French capital, the Argentine striker signed up with Galatasaray in the form of a one-season loan, i.e. until June 2023. The two teams agreed that the management Istanbul takes over part of the salary of the former Inter Milan player, namely 750,000 euros. Since his arrival in Turkey, the native of Rosario has regained his colours, to the point of having scored 3 goals in 5 Süper Lig games. Last weekend, Mauro Icardi offered himself a double against Besiktas (2-1, 13th day).
“If Paris wants to sell the player”
What about his future? If the two parties have not negotiated the possibility of a purchase option at the end of the 2022-2023 season, Galatasaray has positioned itself. Through the voice of its president Durrsun Ozbek, in remarks relayed by the local media, the Istanbul-based team said it was ready to keep the 29-year-old pyrotechnician, under contract until June 2024, on the condition that Paris Saint-Germain opens the door to a sale in the coming months. Good news for the Parisian staff, still in search of cash.
“The salary paid to Icardi is 750,000 euros. It is paid in the form of an annual salary. Icardi’s salary is extremely high. The rest is taken care of by Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, he plays with us on loan for a year. Of course, at the end of the season, if Paris wants to sell the player and the economic conditions are favorable for Galatasaray’s economy, Galatasaray will not hesitate to add a world star like Icardi to their squad. Icardi is a success story made by Erden Timur.”
Landed in France in the summer of 2019, Mauro Icardi scored 38 goals in 92 games in all competitions with Paris Saint-Germain.
