Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has praised his players for their resilience and character after finishing runners-up at the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ivory Coast.
Ghana fell 4-3 on penalties to the hosts in Sunday’s final after a goalless draw in regulation time, narrowly missing out on lifting the trophy.
The Starlets, however, sealed qualification to the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco ; their first appearance at the continental stage since 2017 following their impressive semifinal win over Nigeria.
“These boys have shown great character and determination,” Ogum said after the game. “To reach the final and qualify for the AFCON after such a long time is a step in the right direction. We will continue to build and prepare them well for the challenge in Morocco.”
The qualification marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s U-17 team, who are seeking to revive the glory days that saw the country dominate youth football in Africa and on the world stage.
