President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for the redevelopment of grassroots sports with the creation of the Schools Sports Authority.
This initiative aims to strengthen the inter-school competitions and scout talent identification across Ghana.
Speaking during his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the importance of investing in youth sports development future athletes for Ghana.
“Recognizing the critical role of youth development, we are implementing a significant overhaul of grassroots sports with the establishment of the Schools Sports Authority.
“This body will oversee structured inter-schools competitions and talent identification initiatives essential for nurturing future champions,” he added.
The new Schools Sports Authority is expected to work closely with the Ministry for Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Education Service (GES), to ensure a sustainable framework for youth participation in sports.
The project is to help the upcoming athletes go through suitable training at their early stages to help develop talent that will represent Ghana Worldwide in future.
