Police Ladies FC were crowned Female Team of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards, a prestigious honor that capped off a season defined by resilience, redemption, and glory. The award marks a crowning achievement for the club, following their maiden Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title win last month.
Their breakthrough campaign reached its pinnacle on May 18, 2025, when Police Ladies defeated reigning champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies 2-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium, securing the club’s first-ever league title.
The victory, witnessed by dignitaries including Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, was hailed as a statement of intent from a side once considered underdogs.

The Female Team of the Year award recognized not just that landmark win, but a season of collective brilliance.
Under the steady guidance of head coach Abu Kassim, Police Ladies played with discipline, cohesion, and belief; qualities that have now cemented their place among the elite in Ghanaian women’s football.

The night of accolades didn’t end there. Abu Kassim was honored as Women’s Coach of the Year for masterminding the club’s transformation, while standout midfielder Mary Berkoe claimed the Home-Based Female Footballer of the Year title for her commanding performances throughout the campaign.
Many praised the club’s journey from heartbreak in the 2023 Women’s FA Cup final; lost to the same Ampem Darkoa side; to total triumph just two seasons later.
“Winning Female Team of the Year is a symbol of how far this team has come,” one fan posted.
“They’ve not only won trophies; they’ve won the respect of the entire country.”
As the 2025 Ghana Football Awards came to a close, the spotlight firmly rested on Police Ladies FC ; a team that not only made history but redefined what’s possible in women’s football in Ghana.
