A 2-0 win over host Rwanda secured a return to the prestigious FIFA event for Ghana for the first time in eight years, prompting wild celebrations in the Ghana camp.
Age-group competitions have become something of a holy grail for Ghanaian footballers, who consider the competitions a major marketing platform for their skills to big suitors, and that fact was not lost on the players as they sang their heart out following the Rwanda victory.
Defender David Addy, on the books of Randers FC in Denmark told KickOffGhana.com, “qualification to Egypt means a lot to us because it’s a big competition and often good deals happen there.”
Another defender Jonathan Mensah who only joined up with the team on Thursday before being picked for the Rwanda game shared Addy’s perspective.
“We are delighted because we have seen many great Ghanaian players go through the same competition and develop into world-renowned stars.
“Now we can also go to Egypt, market ourselves on a big platform and do our nation proud at the same time.”
