Pictures: Herbert Mensah and Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah lead May 9 remembrance walk

Herbert Mensah, former chairman of Asante Kotoko and current CEO of the club Nana Yaw Amponsah led thousands to walk for victims of May 9th disaster on Saturday morning in Kumasi.

Herbert Mensah was the chairman of Kotoko at the time of the tragedy in 2001.

The catastrophe happened at the Accra Sports Stadium during a game between rival football clubs Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, amid poor officiating and the use of incorrect crowd control measures by the police.

Nana Yaw Amponsah and Herbert Mensah went on a walk in Kumasi to emphasize the importance of stadium safety.

Thousands of people, including youngsters from various schools around Kumasi, took part in the May 9 remembrance walk in Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko will play Aduana Stars on Sunday afternoon at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors are leading the Ghana Premier League with 55 points.
