Ex-Ghana youth defender Philip Boampong has backed the country’s Under-20 team to win the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup which kick starts on Friday.

The Black Satellites are housed in group A where they will face youth heavyweights Spain, France and US.

They will begin their campaign with a difficult test against France at the Istanbul Arena on Friday.

Boampong, who was part of the victorious squad that clinched Africa’s first and still only World title at the youth level, is confident his compatriots can deliver the title.

“I have looked at the team and I think we have a good team. That stage is a big one that any player will give off his best,” Boampong said

“We have to pray for them and support them. I believe they can go all out and win the cup for us.

“We did it in 2009 and can do it again. We have to continue to believe that if the players put their minds to it, they can also become world champions.

The team will be boosted with the arrival of Black Stars duo Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Baba Abdul Rahman for Friday’s showdown against the Europeans.
