The Maestro of Ghana football is said to be eyeing a seat in Ghana’s legislature on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party, but the three-time African Footballer of the Year says there is no truth in that

Newspaper reports and radio shows say Abedi will be one of at least four people vying for the right to stand on the NPP’s ticket in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in the parliamentary elections in December.

But Abedi told KickOffGhana.com that there is absolutely no truth in the reports.

“I respect politicians and what they but all my life I have been a football person and I don’t intend to change that.”

“I have served this nation as a football player and I still play many roles in relation to the sport in retirement. I feel that through football I have been positive for society and want it to continue that way.”

Abedi captained the Black Stars for seven years and is presently the country’s football ambassador, and an ambassador for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa.
